After mastectomy, the patient can choose to have a breast reconstruction where surgeons fill the cavity with silicone implants (which is customized to match the size of the other breast) and patch it up using flesh from other parts of the patient’s body. So breast cancer patients usually do not need to end up with only one side of the breast after mastectomy.

          • SleepySlacker4 says:

oh that makes sence haha thanks [:

          • Nikebelle says:

they can but more often women then get brassiers that are extra padded on one side..

          • SleepySlacker4 says:

sorry I’m not really knowledgable on the subject, but after a mastectomy, does the patient usually get an implant to match the other breast or just kinda go w/ having one? I’m just wondering.

I am a 35 y.o. single mother and currently have breast cancer in my RT breast and am awaiting a full body PET scan so that my oncologist can determine if chemo is needed prior to the surgery. I have multiple lumps in both breasts, and although my left breast lumps are not cancer, I have opted to have both breasts removed. I am living a nightmare, and each day I pray that I will wake up from this! I HATE CANCER. Please pray that a cure will be found quickly, to spare others this fate.

I had a lumpectomy 2 years ago, and it was one of the most painful things I’ve ever experienced, although that had to do with the fact that the painkillers I was given didn’t work. The tumour was benign, thankfully. Unfortunately the wound didn’t heal well, plus there is another lump in the same spot, so I am getting lined up for surgery again.

She can get an implant or have the other breast removed too. Many times women get the other removed when they have a high risk getting it on the other breast. In these cases, it usually runs in the family.

Bullshit, man won’t notice anything, he won’t give a buck about any suspicious hard point in breast.
